To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, we ask some of our staff to reflect on their experiences with apprenticeships and how it has created a pathway to work and their progression.
In this episode, we sit down with Katie Marshall to get her views.
- What apprenticeship did you choose to complete?
AAT Assistant Accountant Level 3
- What made you choose an apprenticeship rather than another form of qualification?
It was mainly for the tutor support and the extra qualification I will gain at the end. I started off with the level 2 AAT apprenticeship, which I completed in 2020 and the support I received while completing that was brilliant. I then decided to carry on as an apprentice with the same provider.
- What skills have you learnt whilst doing your apprenticeship and have these benefited your role?
I’ve learnt bookkeeping, which is what I do on a daily basis, so yes taking on this apprenticeship has definitely benefited my job role. I have more of an understanding of management accounts now too, something which I hope will benefit my role here in the future.
- Were you always aware that you could do an apprenticeship whilst being employed and doing your day-to-day role?
I wasn’t aware that I could do an apprenticeship, I always thought that it was for school leavers.
- Can you tell us more about your journey at Synectics?
I started at Synectics in 2018, as a finance administrator to assist the team with the purchase ledger. My role is now a finance assistant; I still process the purchase invoices, but now I also analyse the expenses, complete the monthly reconciliations for staff deductions & petty cash, assist with various reporting and now I am being trained to help Jenny with all things payroll.
- What are your hobbies?
Running and baking
- What is your favourite coach house meal?
Love the vegetable and lentil chilli 😊
